EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.

Expl. No. REF HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/TAG/LG2. 2.25.

EAGLE 1X - (9-E-456).

The above engine was fitted with the following modifications :-

(1) Firths Silchrome valve to arrgt. drg. E.24803.
(2) Carburetter and stays to LeC.1938.
(3) Modified induction pipes to LeC.1938.
(4) Epicyclic gear G.6393/5 - the planet and sunwheels being in S/ZNCR (air hardened steel).
(5) Lower half crank case E.21106.
(6) Modified Priming pipe E.25012/3.

and was submitted - first to a 2 hrs. Endurance test on the bed.
secondly to a 50 hrs. Endurance test on the hangar,

to test the modifications.

The preliminary 2 hrs. Endurance was run on the bench 21.1.25. after which it was dismantled and inspected by the A.I.D. and passed as O.K. The engine was re-erected and returned to the test bed for tuning purposes prior to the 50 hrs. run on the hangar.

The distribution at full throttle was very poor, being very weak at No.5. on each side. It was found that the baffles of the 'U' bend on the Induction Pipes had been left out. These were re-fitted and the distribution was considerably improved and at 9/10ths. throttle was very good indeed - power and consumption being O.K. viz :-

368 B.HP. at 1800 r.p.m. (corrected) and .56 Pts/HO/Hr.

The engine was then mounted on the hangar and given
