Replying to BY4/G28632., we find we have a print of the new spring G.55577. referred to, but we do not remember receiving any advice of its use.

We did not reply at once as we could not fully understand G.55577., possibly because our arrangement drawing G.53693. does not show the latest gear lever.

We are not sure what the term 'working position' on G.55577. means. If it means that the button is fully up the spring appears to have been shortened compared with G.51695. and the stress with the button depressed .750" is 91,000 lbs. per sq. in. If the fully depressed position is meant then there is only .075" compression of the spring when the button is up, and the load is only 26 lbs.

We cannot see any reason for shortening the spring, so we presume that the length is unchanged, and provided that our figures are correct the deflection and load are too small.

In any case would you kindly alter the spring to agree in all particulars with those we give in HDY{William Hardy}1/M25632.
