For the attention of T.C.Skinner Esq..

Dear Mr. Skinner,

Thank you for your letter of the 25th.inst.

Actually, the effect of fitting an S.U. carburetter to our standard 40/50 unit would not make a great deal of difference to the performance, because the camshaft is primarily designed for low speed pulling and our existing carburetter performs this function exceedingly well. We therefore think that if you supplied the Margaretting Motor Co., with your carburetters, they would be disappointed with the results. You will also appreciate that in view of the fact that our chief engineer has not approved of fitting the S.U. carburetter to the R.R. car, it places me in a very difficult position when I am asked how this can best be done.

In about a fortnights time I hope to have completed a series of tests with the six carburetters you have lent us and shall then be pleased to discuss the characteristics of these instruments with your representative.

Yours faithfully,

For Rolls-Royce Ltd.
