RE. HAWK-NORTHCLIFFE. X3408

I have not replied to your enquiry as to when we should have the new springs fitted to the Hawk-Northcliffe axle because I wanted to discuss it with R.{Sir Henry Royce} but I have not yet had an opportunity of doing so, though I hope to be able to do so today.

I have looked into the matter myself, and though the fitting of the springs on to the axle is not much of a job, there appear to be several consequential things which will involve a lot of new pieces; for instance, it looks as though it would be necessary to provide a Goshawk type of rear brake operation.

What Mr. Royce originally proposed was that the car should come down here, and when we had it here we should see what we could do towards fitting the new control. I certainly think that even if we got the details away within the next week, it will be at least 3 months before the car is ready to come down if we fit all these new things to it.
