X5425. To EY. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn{Mr Robinson}2/LG7.1.27. 20 HP. CROSS STEERING TUBE. We recommend that the springs to be used in the cross steering tube to N.Sch.2201 on all 20 HP. cars without friction in the pivots should be G.53163. These springs should be arranged to have an initial deflection of .090" with no adjusting washers. Accommodation must be made for two .010 adjusting washers so that the spring at a maximum can be compressed .110". This will raise the stress to 100,000 but as long as springs can be produced which will not take a permanent set we do not think they will break as the stress range is negligible.
