STANDARDISATION of CHASSIS PARTS. Handwritten Top Center: X5425 completed 20.1.27 Description of Parts: SPRING LOADED CROSS STEERING TUBE+ Origin: To improve 20 HP. steering. Box Right: No. 5425 Drawing No. SCH No. 2201 Part List [X] A Scrap and replace on all cars, including Chassis already delivered to Customers. [ ] B Scrap and replace on Chassis at Works. [ ] C Scrap present and replace on Chassis not yet handed to test. [ ] D Use existing stock Alteration effective on future Chassis. Experimental Test Report: This modification consists of putting a spring load of 800 lbs. on the cross steering tube ball ends. A 10,000 miles test on 12-EX shews that unit loads such as these, do not cause excessive wear on the ball and pad. Road Test Report: Run 2000 miles on 10-G-111 and 11-G-111. This eliminates the necessity for friction in the pivots as it cures low speed wobbles. Also reduces road shocks and joggles. Main dimensions of the tube unaltered.
