From Exp. Dept. Copies for:- J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} R.{Sir Henry Royce} Na.{Mr Nadin} C. Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/SM15/016114. 16th., January 1914. Report on Test of 895x150 and 935x150 Oversize Continental Tyres. X.917. One set of 4 tyres of each of the above sizes are under test, each set consisting of 2 steel studded and 2 - three ribbed rubber treads. They are fitted diagonally i.e. one rubber and one steel stud on back wheels and one rubber and one steel stud on front wheel. The 895x150 set are fitted to an open car and have run 930 miles. They are in excellent condition but one cannot expect anything else with so little use. The general opinion is that they are more comfortable in use. The appearance is better than the 135 m/m section. By fitting these 895x150 tyres the steering lock is reduced slightly. The 935x150 tyres have run 1360 miles on a two ton covered car and are in excellent condition. This size of tyre reduces our steering lock from 68° to 58° which is a considerable amount. I advise leaving this size of tyre and wheel severely alone as the wide look of our cars is spoiled by their use. I think the 895x150 size of tyre is worth a more extended trial. | ||
