1020 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}8/MH.{M. Huckerby} 31st. August 1938. Messrs. Vandervell Products Ltd., Western Avenue, Park Royal, LONDON, W.3. For the attention of Mr. Vandervell. Dear Sirs, We are anxious to fit a set of your bearings to one of our experimental units which, other than slight modifications, are similar to the previous sets you have sent us to L.1076. The same size journal shaft will be used, namely 2.498 and we propose to bore the case 2.6655/2.6660 as per your L.1076 in order to maintain same bearing wall thickness, and by this presume we shall not run into any tool cost. The actual difference is in regard to the width of the bearings, the location of the shaft taken on the centre bearing and the position of the oil feed holes in the actual bearings. Enclosed is a print of the crankcase LB.3778, in which we have pencilled other dimensions you will require. In order to get the crankcase cast and in hand suitable for the installation of your bearings, we have instructed the centre web to be made 1.875 diameter which can then be machined down to take your thrust washers, also enough metal left in the bore to bore 2.6655/2.6660 diameter. We are sending only the drawings of our existing thick section top half bearings as other than the oil feed holes, the bottom halves having no holes and the dimensions are the same. | ||
