X5800 Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre. France. GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}I.Crn.10.8.25. To. "Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}" From. G.W.Hancock. Re Chassis 9 G.III. On yesterday's run the water boiled for approximately five hours. Fan belt O.K. No wind. Water lost half a gallon. Air temperature 34°C. Temperature in shade 28 - 30°C. We believe this was the hottest day we have had so far. The water boiled slightly on the morning's run, the afternoon's run being the chief offender. Re report of C. & A.{Mr Adams} washer burning out in exhaust down take pipe, we find that the exhaust has to be sprung considerable to bring it in line with the exhaust box. We believe that the Test Dept. have had a lot of trouble with this C. & A.{Mr Adams} washer burning out, and have discarded it. We have been able to make our joint O.K. without the use of it. We should be pleased to know if this is a standard fitting. Re our oil consumption, you will notice that we are getting a very poor oil consumption, compared with our last test - 869 m.p.g. as against 1200 m.p.g. I do not appear to have any data as to what has been done to the engine, while the car was in Derby, and should be pleased if you could let me have any information re this. Examination of cylinders shows them to be even, but on the heavy side. Also, as we are getting very hot weather, this we do know accounts for loss of oil consumption. We should also like to point out to you the difference in the steering of the car. We have no know-ledge of when the front pivots were oiled, previous to the car leaving Derby, but since we have oiled the pivots here, the steering has become much lighter, wobbles and shocks on the steering wheel have con-siderably increased. I propose to leave the oiling off entirely on the front pivots, to see whether we can obtain our results experienced on our run down here. G.W.Hancock. | ||
