Re' Chassis 9 G.III.

We thoroughly examined the car yesterday, after our run down here. It was in a fairly good condition. We tightened up front spring clips, and body bolts, fitted our lead ballast in rear, repaired O.S.F. wing, which had again cracked where Sandersons had welded it up. We examined cylinders, lubrication is even, and not too heavy. Plugs were reset, as these were found to be uneven. Readjusted tappets and reset carburetter, as consumption was rather high on our run.

As stated on our report of the 7th inst., the servo rattles are bad when box is hot. The periods start at 12 m.p.h. to 18 m.p.h., come on again at 20 m.p.h., coming to a maximum at 26 to 27 m.p.h. There is a period again at 30 to 32 m.p.h. The engine periods have considerably improved. These, we have noticed, come on at 10 to 12 and 18 to 23 m.p.h. They are not bad on the retard. There is a slight period from 44 to 41 m.p.h.

The springing of the car at the front is considerably improved. We hit the buffers only on very bad roads.

We are, to-day, starting on the 10,000 miles test.

We are returning papers belonging to 10 G.III., which had got mixed up with papers brought out with the car.

G.W.Hancock.
