Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bwg.{J. C. Bowring}19/KW. 24th February, 1936. C.T.Skinner Esq., The S.U. Co.Ltd., East Works, Adderley Park, Birmingham 8. Dear Mr. Skinner, With reference to our telephone conversation of to-day. I have sent under separate cover, and marked for your attention, one Bentley Float Chamber Lid{A. J. Lidsey} complete with Needle and Seating. You will see that it is possible to make the needle stick in the closed position vertically, but by tilting the lid{A. J. Lidsey}, the needle releases. I do not think you will find any sign of sticky substance in either needle or seating, and personally think the trouble is due to the area of the seating which should be a knife edge. Probably the area of the seatings vary according to the pressure applied to the needle when you tap them down to make the bedding. Theoretically, of course, these needles with the large angle should be less likely to stick than those with the small angle, providing the seating isknife-edged. However, we shall be glad if you will kindly look into the matter immediately and let us have your comments. Yours sincerely, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
