During the power trials (b) and (c) the brake horsepower, revolutions, the consumption of fuel and of lubricating oil, the quantity and rise in temperature of the circulating water and the rise in temperature of the lubricating oil, are to be measured.

Sufficient data is also to be obtained to allow a revolution-power curve to be made from about 50% up to the maximum revolutions of the engine, at full throttle opening. The power readings are to be obtained after at least 5 minutes steady running.

A trial of the reverse gear of 15 minutes duration during which it must transmit 2/3rds the continuous ahead power at revolutions not exceeding 3/4ths the corresponding ahead RPM.

(d) Silence Test. The silent running of the engine and reverse gear will be required to be demonstrated during the trials on the test bed.

(e) Vibration Test. The engine is to be tested on the test bed for Vibration during the running of the workshop trials.

(f) Report of trials and tests. The results of the above tests are to be forwarded to the Admiralty by the Engineer Overseer immediately on completion.

(g) Opening out after trials. Complete opening out of the machinery is to be carried out after the above tests.

23. Sea Trials and Tests.

The following trials are to be carried out on each boat after the engines to be used have been thoroughly "warmed up".

II. Using the Cruising Engines only.

(a) Two hours at the normal revolutions during which the speed is to be determined by six consecutive runs alternately with and against the tide in the usual Admiralty manner, on an approved measured course.

The trial is to be conducted with the boat in the fully loaded condition.
