(b) The engines will be required to run at the slowest practicable speed while propelling the boat for 15 minutes.

(c) An astern trial, at about 3/4 the normal ahead revolutions, of 5 minutes duration is to be carried out on both engines together.

III. Miscellaneous.

Exhaustive trials to demonstrate the flexibility and efficiency of the starting and manoeuvring arrangements under all circumstances likely to occur in the service of the boat are to be carried out.

Turning trials to port and starboard are also to be carried out to the satisfaction of the Inspecting Officers.

-----------

You will notice that the requirements are not fully detailed and I obtained this further information from the Admiralty :-

DYNAMO.

The dynamo on the cruising engine should be the 24 volt type with a capacity of approximately 800 watts, this depending, to a certain extent, on the main engine starting requirements. The speed of the dynamo should be about 1500 r.p.m at the continuous engine speed. This is expected to be 2500 r.p.m. The dynamo will be required to charge when the engine is running at low speeds and also in harbour with the engine running light and in neutral.

BILGE PUMP.

A capacity of approximately 600 Galls/hr. will be adequate with the most pessimistic total head of 8-10 feet. We have no definite ideas for the pump speed, this depending on the type proposed.
