PHANTOM II CLUTCH - FERODO ON THE DRIVEN MEMBER.

With reference to the above experimental clutch which has been running in the Experimental Department, the material of the pressure and damper plates is, we understand, Mild Steel, and is scored. We suggest that these two pieces should both be made in Cast Iron and in Silico Manganese steel and tested. If Cast Iron is satisfactory, it would be the better material on account of its cost, but we are a little uncertain as to the strength of the pressure plate which is subjected to bending and torsion. We believe, however, that the 20 HP. Pressure plate has always been Cast Iron.

Presumably the use of Mild Steel in the above Clutch has come about due to it being a composite scheme, as we see we instructed on the N. Sch's that these two pieces should be of brake drum material which we believe is .6 carbon.
