I.B.IV - EXPERIMENTAL FEATURES.

In connection with new features which were incorporated in I.B.IV and ran 10,000 miles, the design department are interested to know :-

(1) Is the flywheel tight on crankshaft. (Thinner flange LeC.3674 and 12 bolt fixing.)

(2) Spring drive - LeC.3597-3602 - Your opinion on the condition and operation of this, particularly with regard to 'clonks' at low engine speeds. This part appears to have been satisfactory as far as the 1/2 crank period is concerned but there is the possibility of 'clonking' at low speeds; we are also interested in knowing to what degree timing gear rattles were present with this damper setting.

(3) In view of the collapsing of the pistons how bad were the piston knocks?
