1282 Petrol Ru/AH.8/P. 15th April 1940. Divisional Petroleum Officer, North Midland Area, Mechanics Institute, North Church Street, NOTTINGHAM. Your Ref. NM/98166. RS{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}/MBG. For the attention of Mr. Smythe. Dear Sir, Bulk Supply - Development Purposes. This is to confirm our telephone conversation this morning regarding the above supplies. In the first instance when I made the application this department was not functioning as a whole, so a 'shot in the dark' was made of our requirements, i.e., 500 gallons a month. This proved to be very much in excess of what we have been using, and we have therefore been cutting down our requests to you. Also it has been anticipated that the department would not be working from Derby; therefore it was thought advisable to have a bulk supply. We still have our Works on in Nightingale Road and it has not yet been decided when a move to another address will be made. Regarding the matter of a Certificate from the Admiralty which you mention in your letter, we feel this may be difficult to obtain, because, in the first place, the Admiralty do not pay for any development work; that has to be undertaken entirely by the manufacturer, and as yet our engines are in the development stage and therefore the Admiralty have not recognised them as Continued. | ||
