Phantom 3 Gearbox.

Experimental Modified 2nd Speed Pieces to facilitate engagement - Cone angle 8°.

We send herewith N.Sch.4674 which shows the above.

An extra groove is provided in the cone sleeve, which causes the plungers to withdraw the cone just before the teeth come into contact.

It is not possible in the present dimensions to hold the cones clear during the whole of the engagement corresponding to the chamfered points of the teeth.

If this device is of any use it should permit a smaller cone angle to be used. We accordingly show an angle of 8°.
