HOTEL DE FRANCE CHATEAUROUX. Indre. France. 15th May 1935. To. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From. G.W.H. 5. B. IV. We received the front Axle in Paris Tuesday at noon, and have fitted same and returned to Châteauroux. We took the opportunity to drill out the Cylinder head for the 5/16 studs for the fan. We have also had made aluminum covers for the side bonnet louvers, and had a stay fitted to the Steering column. The fitting of the extra stay to the column has if anything made the column whip more. The whipping takes place from the spherical joint upwards, i.e. the actual steering spindle. With the staying of the lower tube, the top portion appears to have more rapid periods. It is not at all pleasant when travelling over a moderately good road. The Axle fitted being new with all moving parts on the tight side, is less prone to reactions. Selectiveness is the same. We have noticed that the front rubber mounting of the engine has developed quite a lot of play. The bottom rubber block appears to have worn considerably in the bore, where the distance tube fits. We should be obliged if you would send out two new bottom rubber blocks, also give us the dimension of the total thickness of the mounting in compression. We are of the opinion that the distance tube is too long, and does not allow for sufficient tightening up of the bottom rubber. The Car, if it does not again fail, will be running for the 21st.
