Lidsey} 4th December, 1933. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. For the attention of Mr. Lidsey. Dear Sirs, In connection with your letter dated November 28th and the writer's conversation with you at Derby on Friday last in the matter of the changed design of the Mark II Jacks and a defective set of these Jacks which came under your notice. After the writer had examined the set in question, it is quite evident that this was not at all up to our usual standard and it is very difficult for us to understand how such poor Jacks managed to get through our inspection and the matter has been taken up very strongly indeed with our Works. We understand that the second set which the writer brought with him to Derby, you consider to be a good job and if sets of this standard of workmanship are fitted to your cars to customers' orders, you would have no objections. This set, incidentally, was taken directly off the line and was not in any way specially prepared for your inspection. In the event of standardization of our latest design Mark II Jacks on the 20/25 h.p. car, the writer understands that you would require certain modifications to be made which, in your opinion, would further improve the Jack, and the modifications required, would be as follows:- 1. The main screw thread shall be a square thread and not a buttress thread. 2. The sheet-metal cover pressing shall be 19-gauge instead of 20 and be lipped in such a manner that it would give added stiffness to the edge of the case. 3. The lid{A. J. Lidsey} closing members to be lipped in such a manner as to synchronise with the modified lip on the upper case, similar to the earlier model jack in your possession. -contd- | ||
