To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} 354 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}1/AP.11.9.37 33-EX. and 37-EX. It was stated at the Conference that two more cars should be fitted with the solid rocker gear as on 32-EX. We are to inform Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} by not later than Monday stating when this can be done. In our memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}6/AP.11.8.37 we asked for solid rocker gear on the rebuild of No.12. unit, but were informed that we were 3 rockers short of doing the job, and agreed to rebuild with the standard hydraulic mechanism. Now that 32-EX. is being stripped down we could use 3 rockers off this unit to make up a set for one of the above cars, say 37-EX. Will you please say whether this can be done and also follow up with a further set-up for 33-EX. The complete job comprises - (a) E.88758 Cylinder Heads If heads to this number are not yet ready the existing heads could be modified to suit the solid rocker gear as carried out on No.14 unit. (b) E.88760 Camshaft (c) Rocker, Rocker bushes and shaft modified to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}380/1/2. (d) E.88708 Valve guides. (e) EB.1783 bottom valve spring washers. (f) E.88447 Exhaust valves (KE.965) (g) E.88782 Inlet valves S/SLV. solid stems. (h) EB.175 Valve springs. (i) Each unit to be fitted with half of tappets non-plated and cloudburst hardened, the other half in standard plated tappets. (j) Lightened bottom tappet springs E.88500. continued | ||
