I do not want to trouble you unduly, but the following incident was brought to my notice recently in a Paris garage concerning a Phantom II car which had been left there. It seems that the owner before leaving had put the switch-box out of action by locking it with the switch-box key, so as to make sure that nobody could start up his car. Later on the garage man wanted to move the car, and did so in the following manner: He placed the gear-shift lever in first gear, and utilised the self starter as a mode of transport! It struck me that it would be more satisfactory for all concerned if, when one locks the ignition switch, it were possible to cut out the complete electric circuit from the battery onwards. I should be very interested to have your opinion on this subject. Don Allen, to whom I mentioned this question, says that manoeuvring cars in the above mentioned manner by owners, chauffeurs and garage men when they cannot start them up, is quite frequent over here.
