Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} Y4429 Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 5/NJ18.8.22. "Goshawk 11" - Firth's Laminated Road Springs. RHC. {R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} informed me at 12.30 p.m. today that the pair of front springs (Firths) you have had on bumping test have not turned out well and he remarked that so far as he was aware we had only one pair of front springs of Firth's make. In this connection I would point out that in April last Firths sent us two complete sets of "Goshawk" springs, the two sets of front springs being numbered respectively R5, R6, R7 and R8, andthe rear springs being numbered respectively R1, R2, R3 and R4. I believe all these springs were handed over to your Department; therefore you should still have two front springs of Firth's make untested. By this time you should also be in possession of 3 further pairs of front springs of respectively 550, 600 & 650 lbs designed and built in accordance with instructions furnished to Firths on 18th May last; the principal modification being that the springs were stiffened by reducing the deflection under the loads quoted from 3" to 2.5". These springs have been delivered by Firths to us this week and particulars regarding said springs were handed to By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} on the 15th inst. Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} | ||
