Messrs. Vauxhall Motors Ltd.,

For the attention of Mr. W.W. Appel.

Dear Sir,

Herewith a drawing of our propeller shaft damper. It is possible to use less inertia than shown on this drawing but the limits of the friction setting need to be maintained more accurately. It will work on our car between 8 lbs.ins. and almost solid.

The flywheel inertia of the early 20/25 engines was .69 slugs ft² and in those days we were almost free from overrun transmission rattle. The present figure is .46 and without a flexible clutch centre or the damper, rattles are very marked.

Yours faithfully,

For Rolls-Royce Ltd.
