To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/P.Potts. c. RY/RD. c. RR/RC.{R. Childs} Handwritten: 600 also 400 RC{R. Childs} IGNITION DISTRIBUTORS - WRAITH AND BENTLEY III. The first R.R. distributor to Loc.MCD.515 has been tried on the test bed, and a suggestion is put forward concerning the initial setting. As designed, the method of initial setting is the same as on present production 25/30 and Bentley. This latest design is intended to work as 'fixed ignition', thus doing away with the hand control. For this reason it is essential that the initial setting should be as accurate as possible. The method for setting our type of distributor requires care and experience. The suggestion is, that a slight modification can be made to the new design of tower, which will make the method of initial setting similar to the Delco-Remy, which is considered to be an advantage. The distributor tower is fastened to the spigot of the governor casing by three 2.B.A. countersunk screws. The clearance holes in the tower could be elongated, and three cheese head screws fitted, which, when slackened would allow the desired adjustment of the tower. Further, the 5.B.A.stud which holds the tab of the condensor could be deleted, and one of the 2.B.A. screws utilised for the purpose. This modification to the method of setting the ignition would also allow a parallel governor shaft to be used, and the cam to be keyed in position instead of the present accurate taper. This would necessitate correct positioning of the key on the governor shaft. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/F.Potts. | ||
