X5310 We return herewith your blue print of G.51708., on which you had indicated the proposed cancellation OF A HOLE in the speedometer drive casing, and also the suggested vent hole in the change speed lever bracket. We are of course in agreement with the first proposal, as our intention was that a hole should be drilled from the speedometer drive casing into the interior of the change lever shaft bracket, and so maintain a level of oil in the casing sufficient to lubricate the gearing, and allow surplus to overflow through the change lever shaft bracket back into the gearbox through the hole provided in this for the purpose. Regarding the suggested vent hole Mr. Royce does not care for the position of this, and thinks that if the vent can be done without we need not have it, especially as you mentioned there appeared to be no absolute necessity for one, but if you consider some sort of a vent is essential, and will let us know, we will gointo the matter.
