r3806. To WGR. E.8/HP.24.6.32. c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} re Luvax Central Lubrication - Scheme on 19-EX. and 19-G-4. BY and I have inspected the central lubrication schemes on the above two cars - that on 19-EX is not completely Luvax as there are still some soldered banjos in use on the front axle. We came to the conclusion that this scheme requires very careful going over on the drawing board for both models before it can be accepted as suitable for standardisation. We are absolutely in favour of getting rid of all soldered connections, and wherever possible banjo type connections, but we do not think the system of joining up to the axles is acceptable, and that our own R.R. scheme, concentric with the spring anchorage should be carefully enquired into before it is dropped. On 19-EX we notice there is a small coil of two spirals where the pipe passes into the spring gaiter, but this is at some distance from where the pipe is anchored to the chassis, and we fear that a fracture may occur at the latter point. We propose to go carefully into the experience of the Repair Department with our own system, particularly as regards the connections to the axles, and recommend that design work be put in hand to embody the Luvax pump, and include the solderless unions, together with the elimination of banjo joints wherever possible.
