20/25 HP. CENTRALISED LUBRICATION.
---------------------------

Before anything is finally settled regarding the supply of Luvax fittings and pump from Messrs. Lucas, we should like an opportunity to say what we could manufacture and fit the same design of lubrication for ourselves.

Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} has put forward a suggested saving of £6.4.0. by giving the work to Lucas. We should very much doubt this because certain of our present cost would carry on, for instance, fitting the piping to the frame and testing and, of course, certain piping other than frame pipes.

Our opinion, based on the little information we have is that by substituting an olive type of joint for our present banjo fitting and an adapter that could be drilled either for a two-way or three-way piece to replace the present junction pillars, we could affect a considerable reduction per chassis on our present design.

If the new design will simplify the pipe bending and cut out some of the junctions, then, of course, we could make further saving.

Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} says Lucas can supply a Pump for £2.0.0. against our £3.3.7. We do not know what charges are included in this figure, but the net cost of the present pump should be:-

Labour 17. 5.
Material 14. 7.
-------
£1.12. 0.

and given an opportunity we think we could make a pump of simpler design (as presumably Lucas is) inside the price of £2.

We do agree the proposed lubrication is a cheaper proposition than the present one, cutting out as it does so many soldered joints, but the cheapness is in design, and we should like an opportunity of estimating before the work is given to an outside firm. That is the purpose of this note.
