INTRODUCTION OF 'SS{S. Smith}'.

. Replying to BJ4/E12.11.28.

Question 1. What respect did R's car which he used in the south of France differ from the SS.{S. Smith} which we expect to sell to customers.

14-EX car was fitted with standard Phantom engine and gearbox. On the S.S. the engine has been modified, the carburetter being fitted on the other side of the engine, and an entirely new type of gearbox similar in design to the present 20 HP. will be used.

The rear axle which was fitted to 14-EX is similar to the one proposed for the SS.{S. Smith} except that in France 14-EX car was run with straight bevels, on the SS.{S. Smith} it is proposed to use Hypoid gears.

The frame on 14-EX had tubular cross members. It is proposed on the SS.{S. Smith} to have a built up 'X' member.

The exhaust system on the SS.{S. Smith} will be different to the one fitted to 14-EX.

The radiator, engine suspension, petrol tank and wheel carriers will be different to 14-EX.

The starter will be different in detail but will be a similar scheme.

The SS.{S. Smith} will have central lubrication.
