[Handwritten at top: X9680 (crossed out) X9946] To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. SECRET. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LGl.4.24. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. ENGINE. [Handwritten above: X9946 (underlined) X9550 (crossed out)] With reference to E1/M14.3.24. You state that the only EAC. engine we have yet tried in a chassis was one that was designed to go in an underframe. We should like to point out that the car which PN.{Mr Northey} ran in France, had the correct crankcase and engine fixing. The only variation from the LeC. design is that we retained the present tubular front cross member and added a pressed steel member to carry the front point of the engine mounting. With regard to the retard vibrations complained of, they were equally as bad on PN{Mr Northey}'s car as on the original car with the temporary engine mounting. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}! [Note: The words 'we' (replacing 'you'), 'retained' (from 'retain'), and 'added' (from 'add') are handwritten corrections to the typescript.] [Faint watermark text: J SON BOND] | ||
