X7310 HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM HDY.{William Hardy} HDY{William Hardy}2/M25.1.33. 3rd. SPEED WHEEL SEIZURES. X.7310. X.5310. With regard to your recent remark on the telephone that there had been a number of seizures of bearings of silent 3rd. speed wheels, we should like to know what has been found about this. We have always felt somewhat uncertain about the lubrication of these bearings, as the oil has to enter through more or less radial grooves on a rotating bush. We have noticed that other makers sometimes use the radial holes in the gear as used for our spigot bearing bush. We could use this scheme if it were found of value, but our impression has always been that the period of inward pumping is too small compared with the period of centrifugal ejection of oil from the oil-way.
