EPC. MR. 71. COPY RUTHS MAGNETOS TYPE RH{R. Hollingworth}11. PRELIMINARY REPORT An examination of these magnetos show that they are well finished and very similar & in design details to the post-War R.{Sir Henry Royce} Bosch machine. All the castings and other parts are made very substantial at the expense of extra weight, and these magnetos are evidently designed to withstand ill-usage. The various points of interest are as follows :- (1) Bronze base plate and end bearing housing. (2) Slip ring flanges and collector brush holder made of ebonite. There is a considerable distance between the H.T. ring and the frame. (3) Armature tunnel well enclosed by thick alum. alloy casting. (4) Distributor (wipe pattern) consists of a large, well finished off stabelite moulding with external H.T. terminals. (5) Distributor wheel made of a synthetic linen base material similar to bakelite board; and steel armature pinion. (6) Distributor wheel fitted with two roller bearings. (7) Contact breaker rubbing block made of bone grey fibre. (8) Two earthing brushes fitted to armature core. Tests are now being made on the electrical performance of these magnetos, and the results will be handed in, in due course. EPC/H.R.Best. | ||
