LUCAS TYPE KMAG MAGNETO No.1125.

Preliminary report.

On the occasion of my visit to the Lucas factory at Birmingham, I had the opportunity of witnessing the various stages in the manufacture and production of Lucas magnetos.

Assiduous care is taken in the production of each component part, the castings being machined to fine limits, and the armatures thoroughly tested before assembly.

The magneto which we have in the lab. is well finished off and represents a substantial clean design, the main features being:-

(1) One piece aluminium die-casting cast integral with the pole pieces (the armature tunnel being bored out) providing a well enclosed rigid support for the armature.

(2) The armature gear pinion is made of steel whilst the distributor gear wheel is cut out of bakelite.

(3) Substantial stabalite distributor block with the H.T. wires secured from the inside (Carbon brush wipe distribution).

(4) Ebonite slip ring and collector brush.

(5) Bone grey fibre contact breaker lever rubbing block of large section and continuous ring steel cam.

(6) Weight complete 12.25 lbs.

-----

We are proceeding to test this magneto to our general schedule for experimental magnetos.
