-3- Running Record. The power was maintained throughout the run as follows. 3000 r.p.m. - 148.5 BHP. - 113.7 MEP lbs/sq.in. 3500 " - 161 " - 102.0 " " 4000 " - 167 " - 95.3 " " 4250 " - 163 " - 87.9 " " 4500 " - 161 " - 82.2 " " This power is somewhat higher than normal owing to the fact that there was no hot spot and run cold. In turn, running without heat, the end cylinders were on the weak side, which with Redline fuel, caused detonation on these cylinders and after 20 hrs. the Klingerit cylinder head gasket blew out on No.8 cylinder. After fitting a new similar gasket but running on Shell No.1 fuel to cut out the detonations, the 50 hrs. were completed without any further trouble in this respect and the inspection reveals the gasket in good condition. The reason for running without heat was that there was no alternative system available. Consumption (Petrol and Oil). The petrol consumption averaged out as follows:- 4500 r.p.m. - .65 pts/BHP/hr. 4250 " - .63 " " " 4000 " - .61 " " " 3500 " - .57 " " " 3000 " - .57 " " " Regarding the oil consumption, this was excellent throughout at 1.0 pt/hr. considering the size of the engine and the pressure which was maintained throughout the run of 35-40 lbs/sq.in. | ||
