H.R. 886a (100 T) (S.H. 169, 11-8-20) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2200 X 4263 To R from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to DN. Copy to EFC. DAL/CB 24-12-20. [STAMP] EFC [STAMP] DEC 30 1920 [STAMP] RECEIVED X 4263 Re "Kite" Front Axle. We have made a scheme of the "Kite" front axle, "N" Scheme 690, and send a print herewith. Generally, the scheme is based on Goshawk, but we have departed in one or two particulars. We have made the axle rather deep in section and slightly wider. We have also shown the axle pivot rather more upright in the front view, so as to make the steering more nearly truly centre-point. We have also shown a plain thrust bearing one side instead of a ball, and in view of Mr Hives experience on the 40/50 we have taken no steps to prevent this race turning round. The wheel shown is 815X105, but we have taken into account the 820X125, and show the necessary modifications to the hub in Fig 2. We have set out the steering angles, and the motion of the side steering tube on another drawing N Scheme 699, of which we also send you a print. This raises the question of the width of the frame at the front end. We have shown it 29" both on the front axle drawing, and in considering the lock angle of the wheel, but in the frame drawings, and in the drawing of the rear axle, we have taken the back of the frame as 36", which assumes that the side member is rather more joggle in the plan view than at present. We are preparing a full size view of the side steering tube immediately. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
