COPY. To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to R.{Sir Henry Royce} re 18-G-4. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}10/E16.12.30 With reference to the above car which is now running 10,000 miles in France with a view to certain new features being adopted as standard, one of the points which I had hoped to be able to speak to R.{Sir Henry Royce} about before he left for Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence was the question of the radiator and the amount that it has been lowered in the frame as compared with present standard. When I saw the car I was disappointed to find that it had not been lowered as much in the frame as the Phantom II. It still looks rather old-fashioned in consequence. I gathered that there is a difficulty because of a certain cross member on the 20/25 but at the same time I believe ways and means can be found of lowering it another inch and a quarter. I am very anxious that this matter should be dealt with as quickly as possible so as to avoid having to order another batch of material without this modification. I am quite sure that R.{Sir Henry Royce} will agree and, in order to save time, should be glad if you would prepare a design and send it to Derby, letting me know when you have done so so that I can stress the importance of getting one made up quickly for test.
