1114 c to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Col. re MONTHLY REPORT ON COOLING SYSTEM. -------------------------------- 1. HEATERS. A number of rig and road tests on heaters have been carried out and the following main conclusions arrived at:- (a) Using a positive displacement fan, the air delivery of the R-R Marston heater has been doubled. (b) Using a 6" diameter fan suitable for die casting with the R-R.1. baffle we get the following results. 1. No reduction in air flow due to the baffle. 2. Defrosting poor due to air leakage past the baffle into the car. 3. Temperature rise on the road 14°C. 4. Maximum floor temperature at front 32°C. with an outside temperature of 12°C. (c) 5" diameter fan suitable for die casting with an improved blade design and a R-R.2. baffle. 1. Air flow reduced; air distribution better; improvements comparatively easy to be obtained by modifications to the baffle. 2. Defroster appears better but has not yet been tested. 3. No road tests have yet been carried out. (d) 5 1/2" diameter fans suitable for pressing have been tested on the rig. A small number of large blades appears to give equivalent results to our die cast type fan of the same diameter and further tests on this are in hand. - continued - | ||
