- 2 - Continued:- (e) Heaters are still noisy, and we are waiting for a different design of matrix from John Marstons, as it would appear that most of the air noise is developed in the matrix air ways. (f) A remote flexible control for the defroster is to be developed. (g) A Lucas petrol pump switch price 1/10d. has been developed for use as a heater control. This appears very satisfactory. (h) A standard Smith heater has been fitted to 9.B.V. and appears reasonably satisfactory. It should be noted that this heater incorporates a fan mounted on the end of the motor spindle, and no bearings are included. [Handwritten note]: NOT TOO GOOD FOR NOISE. PERIODIC HORN (i) A visit was paid to John Marstons, and Hallam, Sleigh and Cheston to discuss heater design. (ii) BONNETS. (a) 9.B.V. has been fitted up with wing nuts and spring washers on one side, and Amal cowl clips on the other. The cowl clips appear rather too clever and whilst there is no other effectiveness we fear that an instruction book would be necessary to enable the driver to remove his bonnet side plates. The cost is 2/- each. The wing nuts may tend to work loose in time or they may become so tight that with accumulative dust etc. that a spanner will still be necessary to remove them. [Handwritten note]: spring washer? (b) 11.B.V. is to have improved side plates and catches fitted at the earliest possible moment. (iii) WATER PUMPS. The latest type B.80 pump is now ready and is to be fitted on an engine unit as soon as possible. It also appears that Vauxhalls have discontinued the use of their original design of water pump. A visit is to be made to Oscrofts to have a look at the latest Vauxhall water pump. - continued | ||
