The condition of a Phantom III, 32-EX, after a 10,000-mile test in France and a subsequent accident.

PHANTOM III. 32-EX. REPORT ON CONDITION
AFTER 10,000 MILES TEST IN FRANCE. (STRIP INSPECTION IN DERBY) (AFTER ACCIDENT)

Condition generally:- Good except for damage due to accident.

TRANSMISSION AND BRAKES

Flywheel and Clutch.
Operating Sleeve G.83339 - slight wear on face by clutch fingers.
Pressure plate distorted .003 on inside dia.
Splines in centre hub were dry when dismantled, with slight sign of rust.
Friction faces generally good.
Trunnion piece condition good - .008 end float in thrust bearings.
Operating fingers tight in needle bearings.
Rear Rubber suspension - rubber shews signs of fidgetting.

Engine Coupling.
Hardy Fabric Coupling damaged due to accident.
Otherwise in good condition.

Gear Box. No.6.H.S.
Gear Box rear half G.83268 - studs pulled out of 3rd. motion shaft housing and box cracked in bore also rear rubber housing damaged.
Front Half G.83430 broke across the off-side foot.
Boss of front tie rod brokenoff.
The above failures due to accident.

1st. and 3rd. Motion Shaft.
G.83346 - 3rd. and 4th. operating stirrup worn .020 on the extreme ends.
Floating Bush G.82424 slightly scored both inside and outside dia.
G.83715 Operating Cams worn badly on corners.
G.82882 3rd. and 4th. sliding piece slightly damaged at corner of splines at 1st. motion shaft end.

2nd. Motion Shaft.
Operating Cams worn and engaging dogs of the cone are chipped.

Reverse Shaft.
Condition good.

All gears and shafts for the above gear box have been magnetic tested for cracks and found O.K.
