Re- Hispano Suiza
Brake Drum Material
--------------------

As requested, I have gathered together all the Hispano-Suiza bits and pieces you want, and these are being sent off to you with an invoice for customs purposes.

I have also ascertained that the actual brake drums fitted to the latest type Hispano-Suiza cars, are similar in every manner to these, except that of course they are a different shape.

The method of rivetting the cast iron liner to the aluminium brake drum is still adopted by the H.S., people. They previously used to weld these liners to the brake drums, but they abolished this method owing to troubles they were up against.

You will notice that one of these cast-iron liners is cracked, but this does not make any difference, for I was given to understand on good authority that when the brakes are applied, they always crack.

We were unable to obtain some of the bits and pieces which you will find missing, such as brake shoe anchor pin, pull-off springs and guide pieces, but no doubt you will be able to manufacture these parts without much difficulty.

When you have finished with the parts we have forwarded to you, please send them back to us, as we have promised we would return them to the person I got them from.

As we did not want to hold up these parts for about a fortnight to get a "passavant" (to enable them to return to France without payment of duty) we sent them without this document to gain time, and the result will be that we shall have to pay French duty on their return. However, this should not be much, as we estimated them at a secondhand value of about Fcs.150,-.

I trust that these parts will enable you to carry out your tests.
