COPY X8425 To Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c BY 40/50 Cross Steering Tube. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/T22.1.27. When fitting up the spring loaded cross steering tube the following particulars should be noted. The steering should be tested with the wheels jacked up and a normal non-spring loaded cross steering tube mounted with the ball ends perfectly free. The load in this condition required to start the steering wheel rotating, applied tangentially, should be 1 1/8 lbs ± 1/2 lb. The spring loaded cross steering tube should then be fitted with springs G75476 and the load adjusted by means of the washers provided until the load, measured tangentially, required to start the steering wheel moving is 6 1/4 lbs ± 1/4 lb. This should be produced with a spring set up of .138" approx. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
