COPY HIGH DUTY ALLOYS LTD. 81, BUCKINGHAM AVENUE, TRADING ESTATE, SLOUGH, BUCKS. Our Ref. WCD/RMM. Your Ref.BY/EM.18/J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 30th January, 1937. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. D E R B Y. Attention of Mr. Harvey Bailey. Dear Sirs, re R.R.56 Material for Bearings. We regret the delay in replying to the above, but we have had great troubles in our Laboratory over the past few weeks, at one time almost fifty per-cent of the staff being absent with influenza. We are, however, attaching our Laboratory Report No.1007 hereto. We are investigating the actual melts in question, and can only conclude that segregation has occurred. For such parts as the bearings, we are not in favour of the use of extruded material, as, due to the process of extrusion, the grain size obviously varies according to what portion of the bearing it it taken from. We are putting in hand the 12-ft. of material requested, which will see is free from manganese, and will get this off to you within the next week. Yours faithfully, For and on behalf of HIGH DUTY ALLOYS LIMITED. W.C.Devereux. Managing Director. | ||
