Mr. Royce has decided to use plain manifolds to begin with, but if it is subsequently found on test that the manifolds become too hot, then air-cooling ribs should be added. It is desired to proceed with the simplest and lightest scheme first. When it is desired to remove the cylinder head, the main exhaust pipes should be uncoupled at the union nut joint shewn on LeC.1315, and the union joint of this same pipe at the silencer should be slacked off, allowing the pipe to drop, the whole of the manifolds and "Y" piece intact should then be taken off the head previous to lifting.
