X.4238 Re "Kite" Exhaust System. ------------------------ We send herewith a print of "N" Scheme 696 shewing the suggested adaptation of the Goshawk Exhaust System which we recently sent to you of the "Kite". In this case, because there are no diagonal stays between the axle and the torque tube, the silencer can be brought much further back, and the arrangement more closely resembles the existing 40/50. If it is thought that the expansion of the long pipe would cause trouble at the joint to the manifold, it is suggested that a sliding joint might be made at the front end of the silencer, by providing a bearing for the rear end of the inlet pipe on the first baffle.
