Rolls-Royce Ltd, D E R B Y Your ref: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/R.{Sir Henry Royce} Dear Mr. Robotham, In reply to your letter of the 24th instant, reference as above, we have already greatly reduced the hand work on the P.III Carburetter, and have given you the benefit of this by continual reductions in price as and when we were able to effect savings. We started on these reductions of hand work as soon as you had approved the 25/30 Carburetter. The price of the P.III has dropped from £15.11.6 to £10.5.0. so you see that we have already cut out a good deal of labour. The reduction of 4/- really only covers the saving on one coat of enamel and is really more than we actually save ourselves. I do not think it is possible to cut out much more hand labour without coming back to the mass production standard. P.T.O. | ||
