BY1-P19.11.21. contd. - 3 - (4) The use of straight sided tyres and standardisation of Dunlop Wheels fitted with Goodyear detachable flanges. The instruction for this was, that we should not involve any scrap. The new design was to be brought in after we had used up existing material, but in certain instances where a customer insisted on having say Warland rims, we put forward Dunlop Wire Wheels suitable for straight sided tyres as a counter proposition. (5) Standardisation of improved Belt Adjustment. In this instance it was decided in view of the fact that R.{Sir Henry Royce} was keenly interested in bringing it in at once. From the point of view of quietening the Dynamo, we arranged to do this, but in this instance the costs were not submitted, as the only part scrapped was a small screw rod, the cost of which was practically negligible. I think the foregoing instances will make it clear that the question of any cost involved as scrap by a proposal to bring in the new scheme, is fully considered and submitted to yourself and R, wherever R, considers a new design should be brought in at the expense of making scrap.
