-2- marks. Re the American valve springs I have here, it has slipped my memory which way they should be fitted, would you please therefore ask Mr. Olley to let me know whether the springs should be fitted with the closed coils at the top or at the bottom. Brakes:- The brake linings fitted to this car do not appear to be successful from a squeaking point of view. The bad groan that was heard during our visit to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town we have traced to the back brakes, along with the high pitched note that you are aware of from the front. Examination of the brake shoes shows them to be on the very dry side, otherwise the efficiency of the brakes is very good. Rear axle:- We found, during our examination, that oil had crept down the shaft on the o/s of the rear axle, but not a sufficient quantity to enter the drum. The n/s was perfectly dry. Carburetter drain:- We are still getting oil draining from the carburetter after coming to rest. This is apparently being sucked up by the carburetter from the crank chamber. Could we have Mr? Elliott's other scheme of the pipe leading into the outer shell of the silencer instead of into the inner, as he remarked we had two schemes in one. G.W.H. [Signature] G W Hancock | ||
