ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. OY - 5 Dec. 16, 1929. Handwritten notes: W, x7810. Mr. E.W. Hives, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby, England. Dear Mr. Hives: WHEELS & TIRES I attach report of Dec. 4th, meeting of Tire and Rim Division. All resolutions of this Division have to be confirmed by the S.A.E. Standards Committee (but generally are). The report bears out to some extent the statement of Mr. Collyer of the Am. Dunlop Co. to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} that the drop-center rims were actually coming in this country. Am going to sound out this situation further before I return in order to be able to come to some decision as to wheels and tires for L.H. PII. Present indications seem to show that the 20" wheel is approaching its end and that the wisest course would be to try to use 19 x 7 drop center tires at the very start. These have a 1/4" wider rim and a stiffer side wall than the Dunlop tires and may therefore prove to be free from shimmy trouble. Very truly yours, ROLLS ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC.
