With reference to the battery in frame question, Mr. Royce does not consider it advisable to spend money on producing moulds for this scheme at the present moment.
We have considered the question of using separate cells in a wooden box, but we find that the increased length and width required is not permissible, therefore we propose to take advantage of Peto & Radford's suggestion that we should use for the purpose of our experiments their standard mouldings as per sample submitted.
We wish of course to retain Mr. Royce's proposal for wedging the batteries in position, and we think P & R can chamfer the corners of their standard containers to suit, therefore we send you herewith blueprints F.75941 which should be submitted to P. & R.{Sir Henry Royce} asking them to supply us with four of their standard moulded containers but modified to this drawing, also with wooden lids asshown.
We are returning to you the sample moulding submitted by P. & R.{Sir Henry Royce} and you will notice that there is a crack in the moulding where one of the handles is fitted. We presume you will return this to P. & R.{Sir Henry Royce}
It would perhaps be advisable to write and inform the Chloride people that the question of producing special moulds for the moulded container scheme has been dropped for the time being.
