centd :- -6- (1) We cannot appreciably improve the acceleration by alteration to the accelerator well or diffuser unit. (2) The idler jet is at present in operation over a wide range of speed but 'cuts out' momentarily when the throttle is suddenly opened. (3) A Claudel diffuser with the same size jet as used previously in the horizontal carburetter overcomes the trouble. This seems to be due to the reduced distance and capacity through which the mixture has to travel. From consideration of these experiments we should recommend that any modifications that are made to the carburetter should take the form of giving the fuel the minimum travel from the level to the point of admission into the air stream.
