contd :- -5- before it can be delivered into the air stream. We have a test with a standard Claudel diffuser taken from an Eagle carburetter in which the jet was fitted vertically in the choke of the horizontal RR. carburetter. The idler arrangements of the carb. were still retained but the idler tube was removed from the Claudel diffuser. The appended sketch shews how the carb. was fixed up for the test. With this device we could obtain very good acceleration with entire absence of the weak spot. Observation shews us that the jet responds almost immediately the throttle is suddenly opened and starts rather more vigorously than the standard arrangement. A further test was made in which the Claudel diffuser was connected with the horizontal spraying nozzle. Although the mixture in this case had only one right angle bend to pass the acceleration was considerably impaired and only slightly better than our usual arrangement on this carbs. The results of these two latter tests seem to prove that our trouble is almost entirely due to the tortuous passage the mixture has to traverse before it can be delivered into the air stream. We are still investigating these various points and hope to furnish further results very soon. To summarise briefly we find that with the present carburetter :- contd :- | ||
